This medical supply collection and packing event is now an annual favorite to kick off the year!  We do this project in conjunction with Mother's Day Out Preschool & Community United Methodist Church in Elm Grove on behalf of the International Needs and a group of local medical professionals traveling to Ghana to care for kids and families in need of medical care.

Why attend:

Malaria, malnutrition and water-born diseases are all prevalent in Ghana, Africa.  A group of US medical professionals and helpers join International Needs (IN) Ghana’s staff for a week of holding medical clinics.  Each day during their trip they set up a makeshift pharmacy in the schools and open the doors for basic medical care.  In past years, the team saw over 2,000 men, women, boys and girls at six locations. People walked for miles and waited for hours in hopes of seeing a doctor. For many this would be their first time seeking medical care.

We've worked with these groups to donate hundreds of pounds of supplies -- so let's work together this year to help them reach even more people during their upcoming trip!

What to expect:

Hear first-hand about a local woman's (Terry Heyward) experiences with a medical mission team and the people in Ghana, unpack medical supplies attendees bring to donate and sort them out to make them easier to transport on the long trip.  We'll weigh the suitcases at the end to help put a tangible number to the kids' hard work!

The kids will also get to help create a Valentine themed art project to show the kids of Ghana how much we care!

Last but not least, we’ll do a brief special activity with tea lights to highlight the kids’ lights are spreading/shining around the world with this project.

Capacity & Age Recommendations:

This is a big project and we can have 30 families (after the 30th family you will be added to the waiting list. If you get a notification that you are registered, that means someone cancelled and you are in!).

All ages welcome.

What to bring:

Please sign up to bring supplies to pack, if you are able, so we have enough to pack together...but also because it helps kids connect knowing the item(s) they brought are helping families all the way in Africa. Let's see how many suitcases full of supplies we can pack this year!
