Let's play ball...basketball!

We've loved our trips to the Miracle League Field, now it's time to shoot some hoops with our friends in the YMCA adaptive basketball league called Super Hoops.

On Saturday, January 28th Sunbeam Kids will be assisting youth with diverse-abilities at a Super Hoops game through the YMCA.  Volunteers age 10+ are paired with a player to assist on and off the court as buddies.  The players will have a range of abilities.

This is a great chance for our SBK kids who love sports to play with some new team members, however, no sports experience or equipment is necessary...just wear basketball appropriate attire (and SBK shirts if you have them ;).

It's all about making it a great experience for the players and their families so we stay flexible on how we can best lend a little hand...especially since this is our first time volunteering for basketball.

I'll (Katie Mleziva) be leading this project! More information will be sent upon registration.

Please arrive a few minutes early so they can your kids with their buddies. Depending how many athletes show up, our kids may need to share a buddy and that has been fun too!

The Details:

Registration Type: This project will be open to SBK members first, and registration will be opened to guests if space allows.  As a reminder, while donations fuel our work we never want the $40/year membership fee to prevent a family from joining so please email us and we'll offer a scholarship membership (100% confidential).

As for all projects, if an emergency comes and you need to cancel up please let us know ASAP so we can find another buddy.

Ages: 10+ for buddies per the YMCA, but younger siblings are welcome to come and cheer.

Maximum Capacity: 10 buddies ages 10+ (kids or adults) - we can ask to add more spots, up to 20, if we have enough interest and the spots are still open.

As a reminder you can always sign up for other dates on your own  with neighbors, family, friends, a team, etc. as well but it's always fun to go with a group!

-----------------

We understand that some kids/families like to know what to expect at projects before feeling comfortable signing up.  While this is basketball, it's a sister program to Miracle League Baseball. Here's a little about the baseball program, which has been in place longer with the same philosophies.

"The Miracle League believes everyone deserves the chance to play baseball. The league allows all children to play organized baseball, regardless of ability. Kids with special-needs dress in uniforms, make plays in the field and round the bases, just like their peers in standard little leagues."

Thank you for lending a hand - we can't wait to get back out and play (basket)ball!
