Serving Breakfast at Hope Center

Overview:

Hope Center, located in downtown Waukesha, works to reduce the risks of poverty by providing food, financial assistance, and clothing to people in Waukesha County. It's estimated that 20,000 people in Waukesha County currently live in poverty. Hope Center serves three hot meals a day making for approximately 12,000 meals served in a year to guests! This past month, Hope Center moved into a newly renovated building just down the block from it's former location with much more space to better serve the community. Sunbeam Kids is excited to collaborate with our friends from Bronzeville Foundation on Sunday, February 18th from 8:00-10:30 am to serve breakfast at Hope Center.

What to expect:

We will spend the first hour preparing the breakfast and getting ready for the guests to arrive. We will then serve breakfast from 9 am until approximately 10 am, followed by a quick clean up. We expect to be wrapped up by 10:30 am at the latest.

Capacity & age recommendations:

All ages are welcome, although you know your child best so use your discretion if they'll have the patience to help prepare simple breakfast foods and then serve breakfast. We have room for about 4 SBK families depending on the size of families that register (please use an accurate headcount in your registration for this reason).

What to bring:

We will send a Sign Up Genius in the registration confirmation email that will list the breakfast foods SBK will be bringing to prepare that morning. If your family is able to contribute by bringing one or more of these items, that is very much appreciated, however we'll make sure between SBK and Bronzeville that we have enough food to serve the estimated number of guests at Hope Center.

Parking information:

Hope Center has a parking lot that we can park in or there should be street parking nearby.

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

This project is currently open to members* but we will be happy to open it up to guests if there is available space approximately one week prior to the project date. Please only sign up if you know you can attend. We understand illness and emergencies do come up so if you register and can no longer attend, please let us know ASAP so we can fill your spot.

A big thanks to our Board VP Amanda Barnhart for leading this project, and thank you for lending a little hand!

*While we rely on member donations to keep the good work going, we never want the $40/family/year to be a hurdle to volunteering with us. If you are in need of assistance, we do have a limited number of scholarships available that are 100% confidential, just email and ask!
