Flag Collection at Forest Home Cemetery
Overview:
Before Memorial Day, SBK helped honor our heroes by placing flags at the graves of military veterans who have served from the War of 1812 to the present. This time we'll meet again to help collect the flags. We will meet at Forest Home Cemetery on Friday, July 5th from 10:00 am -12:00 pm to assist with locating veterans' graves and removing the flags that were placed at each gravesite.
Forest Home Cemetery & Arboretum offers the unique combination of beautiful green spaces, stories of our city’s past, and a final resting place for our loved ones. Established in 1850, Forest Home Cemetery is Milwaukee’s oldest operating cemetery, open to all since its inception. Forest Home Cemetery is on the National Registry of Historic Places and is the finest example of a Victorian-era rural garden cemetery in the Upper Midwest. In 2021, Forest Home became the city’s first accredited arboretum, Milwaukee’s largest green space with more 2,600 trees on nearly 200 acres.
What to expect:
We will meet at the Halls of History which is across from the chapel (entrance of Lincoln Ave). From there we will walk through the grounds picking up the flags and bringing them back to the Halls of History where there will be a sign telling us where to put the flags. Work for as long as you would like!
Capacity & Age Recommendations:
Open to all ages and we are able to include as many families as want to participate. For this reason, registration is open right away to guest families that who would like to try out a SBK project. Dogs are welcome as well as long as they are on a leash at all times and you clean up after them.
What to wear:
Wear outdoor, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for walking. Kids are always welcome to wear their Sunbeam Kids shirt if they would like.
Parking Info:
There is no parking lot so please find parking along the road closest to the Chapel and Halls of History.

We understand illness and emergencies do come up but they are counting on our hands, so if you register and can no longer attend, please let us know ASAP so we can work to fill your spot.
Thank you to our SBK Board Member Mary Fenelon for leading this project, and thank YOU for lending a little hand!

*While we rely on member donations to keep the good work going, we never want the $40/family/year to be a hurdle to volunteering with us. If you are in need of assistance, we do have a limited number of scholarships available that are 100% confidential, just email and ask!
